This Birmingham-based firm owns more than 700 farms in the UK and processes around 6m chickens every week. It makes frozen and chilled food and bakery products for customers’ brands but also has its own products such as Goodfella’s pizza, Fox’s biscuits and Matthew Walker Christmas puddings. Ranjit Boparan, 49, founded the company in 1993 and has expanded it to 48 sites, mainly through acquisitions. In June, he acquired restaurant chain Giraffe, from Tesco, and is reportedly considering a bid for turkey business Bernard Matthews.
