When you call a doctor late at night, your call is often routed to an out-of-hours service. Software designed by Adastra helps the call-centre operator allocate the nearest doctor, who is despatched to the patient. The company claims to supply 80% of Britain’s GP medical co-operatives. Adastra was founded in 1994 by Lynn Woods and James Berry, and its sales have grown 83% a year from an annualised £1.1m in 2000 to £3.8m in 2002.
