Aiming to make healthcare more accessible and affordable to all, this company’s smartphone app allows users to check symptoms and have a video consultation with a GP. Using artificial intelligence, the app can act as a health monitor, perform simple lab tests and arrange prescription deliveries. Founded in 2013 by chief executive Ali Parsa, who previously built Circle, a chain of private hospitals which listed in 2011 valued at £98m, it has signed up over 1.5m users across the UK, Ireland and Rwanda. Last month, it partnered with the NHS to allow patients in London to use its app in place of a traditional GP consultation. It has raised a total of $85m, including a $60m round in April, which valued the company at c.$200m; its backers include BXR Global Investment, Kinnevik and Vostok New Ventures.
