This fifth-generation family firm was founded in 1894 to produce hardwearing wet-weather clothing. Now worn by everyone from royals to pop stars, its wax jackets are still manufactured by hand at its factory in Simonside, Tyne and Wear. The group now has a range of more than 5,000 clothing and lifestyle products. Managing director Stephen Buck, 58, has led its international expansion to 40 countries.
