Martin Mills, 68, chairman of Beggars Group, began his career in the 1970s running a mobile disco in London. Today, his company is home to the 4AD label. It also has joint ventures such as XL Recordings, which has released records by Dizzee Rascal and Radiohead, as well as Adele’s most recent album, 25, which sold 3.4m copies in America in its first week. The group’s 20 offices worldwide helped overseas sales — excluding joint ventures — reach £21.4m in 2016.
