Founded more than 230 years ago, Brintons was one of the first to establish Kidderminster as a centre for carpet manufacturing. Despite its heritage, the group ran into financial difficulties in 2011 and was acquired by the US private equity firm Carlyle for £40m. Since then, it has returned to strength in its key residential markets of Britain, Australia and Poland — and won commercial projects such as the P&O Britannia, Britain’s biggest cruise ship. In 2015 chief executive Duccio Baldi, 53, led the acquisition of the Polish carpet maker Agnella, helping annualised profits rise to £8.8m in 2016, after £1.3m of exceptional costs were deducted.
