Cheshire-based Britannia runs 52 hotels throughout Britain, including historic buildings such as the grade II-listed Bosworth Hall in Warwickshire. It operates in traditional holiday resorts such as Blackpool, Bournemouth and Scarborough, and city centres stretching from Edinburgh to London. In 2011 it also acquired five Pontins holiday parks. Owner and chief executive Alex Langsam, 78, has led the group’s acquisition of 23 hotels over the past decade and oversaw profits of £34.2m last year. Its operating margin of 41% is one of the highest on this year’s league table.
