This Luton company supplies electric charging units for battery-powered cars to customers ranging from private individuals to local councils and car dealerships. Chargemaster has attracted funding of £3m from Beringea, BMW and the Swiss tech fund Newton, and last year it bought two rival charging networks; it now has more than 4,000 charging points in the UK. Boosted by the expanding market for electric cars, sales in 2015 reached £13.2m. The business was founded in 2008 by chief executive David Martell, 68, who also founded fleet management software provider Trafficmaster.
