Deliveroo was started in 2013 by banker Will Shu, 35, who was frustrated by the lack of late night high-quality takeaway options in London’s Canary Wharf compared with his native New York. Taking advantage of extra capacity in restaurant kitchens, hungry diners can get gourmet food delivered to their door from Michelin-starred restaurants, and the likes of Strada, Gourmet Burger Kitchen and Vietnamese chain Pho. The firm, which now operates in 22 British towns and cities, as well as Dublin, Paris, Berlin, Munich and Hamburg, has raised more than £60m from venture capital investors, including Silicon Valley’s Accel Partners. It is investing in the development of its food ordering and logistics platform and expanding to new locations in Europe and the Middle East.
