Scotland’s largest independent restaurant operator was founded by Joe Conetta, 72, and his nephew Mario Gizzi, 57, in 1983, when they opened their first Italian-American eatery in Glasgow’s West End. Today Mario runs the firm alongside Joe’s son Tony, 43, and they have expanded the group to 18 family-friendly restaurants and five food court outlets. Organic growth and new restaurants contributed to profits of £6.3m in 2016. This year they will open new sites in Edinburgh and Newcastle.
