Farfetch is an online platform for luxury fashion brands that are keen to reach a global audience but reluctant to appear on Amazon or Alibaba. It was founded by the Portuguese entrepreneur José Neves, 44, in 2008 and today it is a one-stop shop for as many as 3,200 brands. It has raised more than $700m in venture capital to help fuel its expansion, including a $397m investment from the Chinese ecommerce business JD.com last year, and funding from Yuri Milner, an early backer of Facebook and Twitter. Its sales, representing its fees, reached £299.8m ($386m) in 2017 and last month it filed for an initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange, with a reported valuation of $5bn.
