At 603 carats, the Lesotho Promise is the 15th-biggest rough diamond ever found. Graff Diamonds has paid more than £6m for this glittering prize, and master jewellers are now considering how best to cut the stone. The London firm buys raw gemstones directly from mines and turns them into unique jewellery sold from high-end outlets worldwide. Stores in Europe, America and the Middle East will be joined this year by new outlets in Geneva, Hong Kong and Tokyo. Sales reached £185.1m in 2005 under chairman Laurence Graff, whose creations have been sported by Victoria Beckham, Elizabeth Hurley and Kylie Minogue.
