Inventor Nick Grey, 48, left the vacuum cleaner maker Vax in 2001 to design his own cordless floor sweeper. Taking on established brands such as Dyson and Hoover, his company has developed cleaners that are cordless, lightweight and easy to use. The Worcester business also makes cordless garden tools, and, most recently, an electric bicycle with a concealed motor and a battery disguised as a water bottle. Its popular AirRam vacuum helped sales hit £66m last year.
