The majority of scones made by this family-owned bakery are the traditional plain or fruity varieties, though it does embrace scone innovation — its selection has now expanded to include cheese, date and maple, and even marshmallow versions. It produces 50,000 scones an hour from its purpose-built factory in Barnsley, supplying most UK supermarkets. The company — which is led by owner and managing director Wayne Padgett, 55 — says a growing British cafe culture helped profits rise to £4.6m in 2015.
