The London-based I Spy develops online marketing techniques for clients such as Virgin Media and Vauxhall. Founded in 2005 by Chris Whitelaw, a former investment banker, the company offers a range of services that include search engine optimisation and targeted advertising on social media such as Facebook. With its home-grown software, Upcast, the firm can track consumer responses to online advertising and so help clients to refine their pitch. Sales have been helped by continued growth in social media and have risen 170% a year from £463,000 in 2007 to £9.1m in 2010.
