The Lancashire footwear and clothing distributor D Jacobson & Sons has been printing ahead since it bought the sportswear brand Gola in 1996, which now accounts for 50% of its sales. Headed by Harvey Jacobson, the company gets its manufacturing done in the Far East and sells to high-street retailers such as Stead & Simpson. Gola’s increasing popularity and the acquisition of the Lotus and Frank Wright brands in 2004 have boosted profits 74% a year from £2.6m in 2001 to £13.6m in 2004.
