This Aberdeen-headquartered group has 6,500 staff worldwide, manufacturing, operating and servicing drilling rigs for oil and gas customers. It operates about 100 rigs, the majority onshore. Pamplona Capital acquired a controlling stake in 2010 and refinanced £484m of its debt in 2014. In 2016 sales fell 14% to £936m because of the drop in oil and gas sector activity. Led by chief executive Norrie McKay, 58, it is expanding into geothermal energy, recently announcing a contract for two wells in Holland.
