The Enron scandal has given energy trading a bad name. KW International wants to help improve that perception and has developed software that analyses the risk in energy trading. Its software helps firms decide between buying or producing the electricity they are contracted to supply. KW’s customers include the Canadian company Ontario Power, the Seattle firm Puget Sound Energy, and the Italian company Energia. KW is developing a similar system for gas trading. Its sales have grown 73% a year from £3.8m in 2000 to £11.5m in 2002, when the London company made a loss.
