Pressure on clients to cut costs during the recession gave a boost to MDSL, which helps firms to spend more wisely on telecom services and financial data. Sales have grown 49% a year, from £2.7m in 2007 to £9m in 2010, and the Tunbridge Wells company now has operations in Paris, New York, Macau and Tokyo, generating four-fifths of its turnover overseas. MDSL was founded by husband and wife Ben and Lesley Mendoza in 1995 and its customers include BP, Volvo, Estée Lauder and some banks.
