Mimecast specialises in everything to do with email, helping organisations such as Lovefilm.com and the law firm Eversheds manage, archive and secure it. More recently, it has invested in developing applications for smartphones, such as an archive search tool for the BlackBerry. Co-founders Peter Bauer and Neil Murray ran technology businesses in South Africa before spotting opportunities for providing an internet service from Britain. In 2009, the company received £13m of private equity backing from Dawn Capital and Index Ventures. Sales grew 97% a year from £2.7m in 2008 to £20.9m in 2011, and next year Mimecast expects to be in profit for the first time.
