This Dorset company has raised more than £25m in private equity funding during the past four years, with backers including Impax Asset Management. Most of its clients are local authorities, which engage the company to divert household waste from landfill and produce recyclable material and compost. Its investors see great potential in New Earth’s technology for producing energy from non-recyclable waste—a commercial roll-out is planned within 18 months. Investment in new waste treatment facilities has helped to grow sales 46% a year from £3.6m in 2008 to £11.1m in 2011, when the company reported a pre-tax loss of £8.5m.
