NS Optimum offers computer network installation services to schools, ranging from state-run primaries to well-known private schools such as Harrow. The education sector now accounts for 95% of the company’s business. One of its biggest contracts was to supply an information-technology network for Uppingham School’s 40-building site in Rutland, having had just two days to prepare a tender for the job. During installation over the Easter weekend, one of NS Optimum’s workmen shattered a water pipe, flooding an accommodation block. The company had just 10 days to repair ceilings, replace carpets and redecorate, a task it achieved. Gavin Rose, managing director, attributes the company’s 73% annual sales growth, from £1m in 1996 to £5.3m in 1999, to early entry to the growing education market and hard work from his team.
