The success of its Sheraton kitchens has secured Omega a second appearance in the Fast Track 100. It took 11th place last year. Omega was founded by Bob Murray, chairman of Sunderland FC, in 1995 after he left Spring Ram, another kitchen company. Murray thought there was a place for an innovative maker of good-quality made-to-order kitchens. He and his fellow directors invested £5.7m, secured a development loan of £1.3m and built a factory near Doncaster. ‘Its made-to-order range was a big move for its middle-market audience who were used to a more basic product,’ says Martin Levitt, finance director. The concept is now well established and has helped to drive up company sales 98% a year, from £1.4m in 1996 to £10.8m in 1999.
