PA Consulting Group has kept traffic flowing on our increasingly busy roads, working with England’s Highways Agency to reduce congestion and improve safety. Other projects for the management, systems and technology consultancy include cutting costs at the Devonport nuclear-submarine base by £60m and protecting BP from cyber threats. The employee-owned firm has two start-up ventures: Aegate, which develops technology to fight pharmaceutical fraud; and Procserve, its IT procurement consultancy. Alan Middleton took the reins from retiring chief executive Bruce Tinsdale this September. Sales at the London group were £374.4m in 2006.
