Bolton-based Fil Adams-Mercer left school with few qualifications, but that did not stop him building a company that has grown sales 40% a year from £6.2m in 2008 to £16.9m in 2011. Parcel2go runs an online delivery service that allows customers to compare prices and choose between couriers such as DHL, FedEx and Parcelforce. Adams-Mercer founded the business in 1990 to make deliveries for video wholesalers. Now he sees Parcel2go as midway between a software company and a delivery business.
