London-based Pentland manages clothing and sports equipment brands such as Berghaus, Canterbury and Speedo. It designs the products for each brand, makes them or outsources their production, decides marketing strategy and handles distribution to retailers. The company also owns a majority stake in JD Sports, which is valued on the stock market at £2.5bn. Pentland is owned by the founding Rubin family and chaired by Stephen Rubin, 78. His son Andy Rubin, 51, is chairman of Pentland Brands.
