Should you need a pink coat for your poodle or banana-flavoured bird food for your budgie, Pets at Home has them in store. This pet supermarket chain, founded by Anthony Preston in 1991, reckons it has all the food and accessories your pet might need at its 201 out-of-town stores. All outlets have an aquarium and “bunny village” and some have grooming salons and veterinary surgeries. Bridgepoint Capital bought the Cheshire business from 3i in 2004 for £230m, and sales grew to £306.5m in 2007.
