PIPEX claims that it was Britain’s first commercial internet service provider, having been founded by internet visionary Peter Dawe in 1991. Today the company has 10,000 small and medium-sized business customers and, in partnership with Dixons, promotes its products in PC World, Dixons and Currys stores. It also sponsors the Rough Guide to the Internet. The company’s sales have increased 53% a year from £9.3m in 2000 to £21.7m in 2002.
