PureGym has more than 200 sites with most open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All offer low-cost membership and on-site personal trainers without tying members to long-term fixed contracts. Last November, chief executive Humphrey Cobbold, 53, led a buyout backed by American private equity firm Leonard Green & Partners, valuing the Leeds-based business at more than £600m. The chain says membership in 2018 has risen to more than 1m, and in June it bought Soho Gyms to bring the number of sites in London to 59.
