Shiner began as a builders’ merchant in 1936 but now distributes skateboards, sports equipment and clothing throughout Europe. The Bristol-based family business supplies Heelys — trainers with a skateboard wheel in the heel — across the continent. It also has a licensing agreement with skateboarder Tony Hawk to manufacture and distribute his Birdhouse skateboards, and has the European licence for Alien Workshop skateboards. Under managing director Charles Allen, 44, exports to 35 countries totalled £16.8m in 2016.
