In the 50 years since the first TGI Friday’s opened in New York, this cocktail and burger bar business has expanded to a global chain of 1,000 restaurants. The British franchise opened in Birmingham in 1986 and, now headquartered in Luton, the leisure group has 81 branches across the country. In 2014, chief executive Karen Forrester, 58, oversaw TGI’s sale to Electra Private Equity for a reported £215m.
