Name a recent Hollywood blockbuster or Bollywood hit, and the chances are that The Foundry’s software was used in creating the visual effects. Harry Potter, Transformers, Avatar, Black Swan, The King’s Speech and Tron are some of the films the company has brought to life. Bruno Nicoletti and Simon Robinson founded the London company in 1996 and Advent Venture Partners backed a management buyout in 2009, exiting in March this year when the Carlyle Group acquired a majority stake for an undisclosed sum. Under chief executive Bill Collis, sales grew by 74% a year, from £2.5m in 2007 to £13m in 2010. The company now believes that the Indian film industry offers the most potential for growth.
