Spun-out of a university research project in 2003 to commercialise its arm and hand prosthetic technologies, this Livingston firm makes artificial limbs that are powered by a patented motor. Backed by a consortium of angel investors and the Scottish Investment Bank, it recently developed software for an app that controls the movement of artificial limb. With customers in the US, China, Brazil and Europe, chief executive Ian Stevens, 50, led Touch Bionics to sales of £10m last year.
