Wagamama — which means “naughty child” in Japanese — serves a Japanese-inspired menu of noodles and Asian food. The London company has 127 restaurants in Britain, four in America and 47 operating under franchise agreements in other countries. Under the stewardship of chief executive Jane Holbrook, 53, and chairman Allan Leighton, 64, profits rose 62% to £17.7m in 2016. The chain is expanding in the US and exploring franchise opportunities in Europe and the Middle East.
