Michelin-starred chef turns TV celebrity with Hell's Kitchen
He hates being called a celebrity but there is no doubt that a high media profile has helped three-Michelin-starred chef Gordon Ramsay defy the downturn in the restaurant sector. The former Rangers footballer's reality TV series Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares appears to have helped boost sales last year. The most profitable of the group's seven London restaurants is Gordon Ramsay at Claridge's, with profits of £1.4m last year. Opening five new restaurants since 2001 has helped group profits rise 103% a year from £516,000 in 2001 to £4.3m in 2004, although the firm made a small loss of £586,000 in 2003.
