In 1985 Sean Thomas and George Treves started selling T-shirts in Val d’Isere, so they could afford to prolong their time in the French Alps. Six years later, they opened their first White Stuff store in Battersea. Under chief executive Sally Bailey, who joined in 2004, the company has expanded its product range and opened more shops—there are now more than 50 outlets across Britain. Profits increased 50% a year from £2.6m in 2005 to an annualised £8.9m in 2008.
