Niche mail-order clothing company eyes American expansion

A few years ago, Boden decided to concentrate on boosting profits after several years of fast sales growth. Eton and Oxford-educated Johnnie Boden founded the London firm in 1991, when he gave up investment banking to start his own clothing company. Now the mail and internet-order business is a household name among the British middle classes, with 30% of sales generated online. Its profits have grown 83% a year from £915,000 in 1999 to £5.6m in 2002.
