More than 150m people have used Shazam’s mobile-phone app, which identifies a piece of music through a handset. Chief executive Andrew Fisher is now turning his attention to television: Shazam logos appear in ads and shows, and users can point their phone at them to receive rewards such as vouchers and additional footage. The company’s sales grew 64% a year from £2.4m in 2007 to £10.6m in 2010. In June, Shazam raised $32m (£20m) in venture capital from investors including Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, which also backs Google, Facebook and Twitter.
