Shareholders: Charterhouse, CVC, Permira, management & staff

Acromas was created in 2007 by the merger of two well-known British businesses — Saga, which sells financial products and holidays to the over-fifties, and the AA motoring organisation. Together, the two companies have nearly 18m customers. Acromas’s latest cruise ship, the £60m Saga Sapphire, set sail on its inaugural trip in April, and the company moved into home care last year by acquiring two large providers. Led by chief executive Andrew Goodsell, the Kent group had sales of £1.8 billion in 2011, with debt exceeding £6 billion.
