Opus energy began life in 2002 as Oxford Power and today supplies electricity and gas to 100,000 business properties and housing associations across Britain. In 2006 the FTSE 100 company International Power became Opus’s largest shareholder and signed a long-term agreement to give the business access to low-priced energy. Under managing director and co-founder Charlie Crossley Cooke, sales climbed 31% to £197.7m in 2011, while profits were up 62% to £16.5m. Customers include Virgin Media and Stagecoach.
