The Alfayed family trust, owner of Harrods since 1985, sold the Harrods Group to Qatar Holding, the strategic investment arm of Qatar Investment Authority, for a reported £1.5 billion in May. The luxury store in Knightsbridge has 300 departments across seven floors. It attracts 15m shoppers a year and can cater for more remote customers, delivering goods to 40 countries. Harrods also provides a range of other services. It can organise private flights in jets and helicopters, manage property and take care of personal banking. The group reported sales of £519.8m in the year to January 2010.
