The second-oldest Formula One team after Ferrari, McLaren has also been one of the most successful. With champions Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button at the wheel and sponsorship from the likes of Vodafone, Mercedes and Pirelli, the company’s sales reached a record £291.6m in 2009 under chairman Ron Dennis and chief executive Martin Whitmarsh. The Surrey group has a number of other businesses, including an electronics company and an upmarket catering firm, Absolute Taste. It spun off its sports-car arm, McLaren Automotive, on the last day of its 2009 financial year.
