2008 Buyout Track 100
Rank: 23 Sunseeker International
This company employs more than 1,800 staff at Poole, designing and manufacturing its signature luxury motor yachts, as well as sports boats and offshore cruisers. Boasting customers such as Eddie Jordan, the motor-racing boss, and with regular appearances in Bond films, Sunseeker says it leads the market for motor yachts over 80ft, and recently unveiled its largest vessel yet, a 37-metre triple-deck powerboat costing £10m. Founder Robert Braithwaite led a £44m buyout in 2006, backed by Bank of Scotland Corporate, allowing Sunseeker to invest in a new shipyard for larger boats. Profits sailed ahead 62% a year from £7.8m in 2005 to an annualised £20.5m in 2007.
