2012 Buyout Track 100

Rank: 43   Jack Wills

Main shareholders: Inflexion Private Equity (27%), management (73%)

Named after Jack Williams, grandfather of co-founder and chief executive Peter, this company attributes its growth to an appetite for Britishness. Selling casual, preppy clothes to 18- to 21-year-olds through the Jack Wills brand, and reaching a more mature market through Aubin & Wills, the company now has 73 stores, concessions and outlets in affluent towns across the UK, two in Ireland and 11 on the northeast coast of America. In 2007 Inflexion bought a 27% stake in the London-based retailer for an undisclosed sum, and profits have grown 44% a year, from £7.8m in 2009 to £16.1m in 2011.
