Film production studios worldwide use The Foundry’s visual-effects and image-processing software. Clients include Sony Pictures Imageworks and Pixar. The software has created sequences for blockbuster movies such as Harry Potter, The Adventures of Tintin and Avatar. Chief technology officer Bruno Nicoletti and chief scientist Simon Robinson founded the London company in 1996 and have overseen profit growth of 83% a year, from £1.5m in 2009 to £5.2m in 2011. Carlyle Group acquired a majority shareholding for an undisclosed sum in March 2011.
