As former owners of takeaway businesses, Pat Reeves, 45, and Rohan Blacker, 46, wanted to start a company with high profit margins and low overheads. They set up Sofa.com in 2006 after paying $200,000 for the domain name and now sell 13,000 units a year. In April, they launched the business in America and opened a showroom in Manhattan. To expand further, the company plans to improve its marketing and will run competitions where up-and-coming designers are given the chance to design fabric that will be available on all sofa.com products.
