Describing itself as an “international lifestyle brand”, Cath Kidston sells a range of homewares, bags and clothing in its distinctive retro floral designs. Most of its overseas turnover comes from Japan, but Japanese and American websites also bring in some revenue. The company has other stores in South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand and it plans to open 20 more this year. Cath Kidston founded the business in 1993, and in 2010 TA Associates backed a majority buyout, valuing the firm at £100m. Foreign sales have grown 68% a year, from £5.6m in 2009 to an annualised £15.9m in 2011.
