2012 Tech Track 100

Rank: 23   Forward Internet Group

Recently acquired one of Europe's largest publishers for biking enthusiasts

Most e-commerce firms want online shoppers to spend more, but Forward Internet Group helps them save. Shoppers can download its “Invisible Hand” technology and, when browsing products, it notifies them of cheaper prices on other sites, gaining commissions for subsequent sales. Retailers and airlines covered include Amazon, Boots and Virgin Atlantic. Founded by Neil Hutchinson, the London firm also runs e-commerce and price-comparison sites, having acquired uSwitch in 2009 and Factory Media in 2012. Success at uSwitch and organic growth boosted sales 97% a year, from £18.3m in 2008 to £139.3m in 2011.
