Film production studios worldwide use The Foundry’s visual-effects and image-processing software. Customers include Sony Pictures Imageworks and Pixar, and the software has created sequences for blockbuster movies such as Harry Potter, The Adventures of Tintin and Avatar. Chief technology officer Bruno Nicoletti and chief scientist Simon Robinson founded the London company in 1996. US private-equity firm the Carlyle Group acquired a majority stake for an undisclosed sum in March 2011. Product launches and organic growth helped sales rise 49% a year, from £4.6m in 2008 to £15.4m in 2011.
