2012 Tech Track 100
Rank: 37 New Earth Solutions
Planning to grow from waste management into energy recovery by January
Local authorities engage New Earth Solutions to reduce the amount of household waste they send to landfill, instead turning it into recyclable material, waste-derived fuel and compost. With backers including Impax Asset Management, this Dorset-based company owns and operates five waste management plants in Dorset, Kent, Leicestershire, Gloucestershire and Bristol. The plants have almost reached their annual capacity of treating 400,000 tonnes of waste. Sales are mainly derived from local authority contracts, and have increased 78% a year, from £4.4m in 2009 to £24.7m, under managing director Chris Cox.
